I'm posting a new pledge drive as I write this. Fear not, I have not forgotten the forum favorites Balearic Operation or Rembrandt 7. I am updating everyone now to soothe fears and silence  false allegations that are bound to crop up ...  Grin

Balearic Op: I have received a beautiful copy of the Italian CHV VHS from Rich. It really is nice, but as you all know it is a 4:3 print. I had a false hope last month when this film was scheduled for broadcast on one of the better Italian digital tv stations... it was "preempted" with another film and has not been rescheduled yet. An avi file of the film from a Spanish tv broadcast has surfaced on emule and some of the classier P2P sites. This one IS widescreen, but a shorter duration than the CHV version. I have one more source I can tap for a widescreen version and this will take another month or so.

Rembrandt 7: The version from Italy I was banking on turned out to be a bummer in the quality department compared to the German dvd. I will be looking closely at the differences between the two to see if a translation of the Italian version can be fitted to the German dvd...

I am looking for a copy of the Italian dvd release for James Tont Op D.U.E. for a future translation by RL. I have an avi rip of this, but not the dvd. If anyone has this and wants to trade please contact me.  As a matter of fact, if you have ANY spy or caper films in Italian that are "sub worthy" please let me know. I want to keep the momentum going on this.

cheers

More update info, this time from (mostly) the redub side...

I am trying to wrap up the redub for Perry Grant (Big Blackout). The audio has been done for a while now but due to either tape glitches or bad cutting there are two small scenes that couldn't be dubbed. I left them in Italian and asked RL for a translation. Well, back and forth and finally came up with something workable. There's still a line in each scene that isn't covered but close enough for gov'mint work... they aren't at all critical. So, hope to wrap that up and screen this weekend. Will be posting it when I'm satisfied.

Also working on a redub of The Viscount based on the OOP French dvd and the English vhs capture... both supplied by Rich (props!). As warned, the two versions have different actors playing the character of Clint de la Roche; Edmond O'Brien and Ricco Barone... so it's been a struggle. I am over the half-way mark and have only one major scene in that part that remains in French. But, La Roche figures prominently in the second half. I will need to "solicite" some translation work on this if I can't make the Eng dub work in these scenes.

Got a great parcel of disks from Italy this week. The star is RL's recording of Fistful of Diamonds... This is on the project list for sure! Another great find is a broadcast of OK Connery (wide screen! no station logo! no bots!). I'll be posting the screens and asking here if this will be the definitive version before I start a redub...

There are more gems in the package, but I need to check them out a little closer before adding them to the list.

Great news from across the pond! Yes, our old budy "Dave from Spain" has been busy as well. He has released two more Kommissar X redubs based on digital tv captures from Germany. I have higher quality captures of the same broadcasts, but I am hesitating to spend time on them because of the announced release of most of the series by Koch Media... any new word on this?

He also says he's finished with Op Stermino, Cave of Diamonds, and 13 Days to Die but won't be able to share these for a couple of weeks due to connection problems. These are based on wide screen tv captures and I have the same videos so can offer them here.

His latest redub he wants to start soon is  DA 077: CRIMINALI DI HONG KONG. ETC offers an Eng dub so if any of you have this I'd like to get it and save him the effort. We are also looking for an Eng dub version of Black Panther of Raatana...

All for now...

Edit: Forgot to add to the project list a redub for Casablanca, Nest of Spies (French dvd)... sorry Ari! I still owe you They Came to Rob Las Vegas as well.

As I posted earlier, RL also included his digital broadcast recording of 7X7 (looks great)... then backed it up with a promise of a copy of the King Records dvd (will look better still). I've been sitting on the Eng dub for some time (thanks KX). This is going on the pile with everything else, of course... phew!

cheers

BTW, Perry Grant is looking good...

Wow!  Thanks for that massive update, Skadog!  ALL of that stuff sounds great, but I am SO excited about the widescreen Operation Kid Brother!  I can't wait to see the screengrabs.  Amazing!

Screens from the latest haul:

Fistful of Diamonds will need some editing as there are a couple of commercials. I'm not sure of Baraka, it's definitely 4:3 but looks really nice (reds are a bit bright). I'll need to check against my widescreen version and see if it's worth the effort.

Give some feedback if you know of better ones out there.

Cheers

agente segreto,

Yes, I would be interested in seeing if it's possible to do a redub vs sub... even though RL seems faster than I am.

Although it's split on the preference for ITA / subtitle versus Eng dub. I think in this case it will depend on exactly how corny the dialog is (if my old feeble grey matter doesn't fail me, the dialog is VERY lame in the dub...).

dunno, what do you think?

Well, the movie is a parody so corny dialogue wouldn't matter

I'm not too keen on italian (prefer german or french)

I can send you a copy of my version if you want, and then you can decide?

Rich,

I can see "lush" for OK Connery and Fistful of Diamonds, but what about Gordon and Baraka? Gordon looks a bit fuzzy, but does look better on the tellie. I haven't had a chance to dig out my copy of Baraka, but the 4:3 bothers me. If it was shot in Eastmancolor, this print cannot be open matte... right? On the other hand, the pan-n-scan does look to be done correctly...

I also have screens for Last Plane to Baalbeck and Trap for Seven Spies to post. These are a bit "iffy" as well.

The others from the shipment are more of the same:
- Trap for Seven Spies - This one is from a widescreen vhs but it's a bit ropey. That being said, it may be the best version out there. I have nothing to compare with on this one.
- Dick Smart- same CHV vhs rip, I'll need to compare against KX's redub
- Lucky the Inscrutable- Same vhs rip as my redub.
- The Spy Who Loved Flowers- Looks to be the same 4:3 version as I have. Need to have a closer look.
- Rembrandt 7 - Definitely not as good as the German dvd, but it may have footage missing from that one.
All in all, they need a closer look to compare against what else is out there.

It's all relative - if it's the best out there then it's nice to see. Whether it's worth redub / sub time is another thing. Baraka is a great movie - shame it's not wide.

Password maybe fuzzy but the dutch subbed VHS is tedious. Imagine Magnus and the fin de siecle guys getting hold of the whole Roger browne oeuvre. Hmmm....

BTW Lush is a not often used term of approval in Wales - it also seemed to fit the bill on the upgrades on all those titles.
