Brisco,
I saw your review post for the new OSS movie. Great job!
If the subtitles on the dvd have the same problems, there is a real simple fix to color the sub file using DvdSubEdit. Let me know if you need specifics.
cheers
Great to know! Thanks, Skadog. Hopefully it won't be an issue on the DVD, though, since the image will be more compressed. But if it is, nice to know there are alternatives!

Just got the latest haul in from RL's "Italian Connection" and some of the films look great. There's the Italian dvd of Hot Diamonds in Cold Blood, a widescreen tv capture of Elektra 1, and the Italian dvd of To Skin a Spy. I have audio for the first two, but Skin has eluded me so far.
There's also a possible upgrade for Si Muore Solo una Volta. I need to compare it to what we already have to be sure.
There's also two more coming in a separate package... the ITA dvd's of Op San Gennaro and Your Turn to Die! There is also two non-spy favs of mine, the ITA dvd's of China 9 Liberty 37 and Ms Stiletto.
Lots of possibilities here, folks.... just wait until my new "Spanish Connection" comes through in a week or two. From the screen shots I've seen, it'll be worth its weight in gold.
BTW, I also want a dialog started on what everyone is looking for in the subtitling project after Tont Op DUE is finished. There was a comment made that too many caper and spoofs are being done. Maybe the Tonts needed to be put on the back burner? I could only find audio for one and it seemed a shame not to have them both with the same option... besides, the redub list is very long at this point.
My criteria for picking films for RL to do is that they must have a decent video and audio and I must have spent considerable time hunting down Eng audio with no luck. There really aren't that many to choose from and we will be out of stock to work from before you know it. So far, I have only a few strong candidates for future translation, Balearic Op and possibly To Skin a Spy. There are a couple more I sent to RL, but they elude me at this time.
So, comments are welcome...
cheers

I like the spoofs like Tont and Matchless, and I consider them part of the oeuvre (did I just use that word?!). Some of the spoofs are more enjoyable than some of the drek, straight-up stuff. The caper flicks are fun but in my book, they're peripheral since my focus is on eurospies as a specific genre.
Part of the appeal, for me, in collecting eurospies is that there's only a limited number of them, even if it is a couple hundred or so. I can feel like it's possible for me to get a really decent collection within a reasonable amount of time (thanks in large part to guys like you). I've been collecting music for years and years and still feel like I'm just sitting in a rowboat, dipping a cup over the side. So yeah, there are only so many, and for me, that's a good thing. It does seem, as the numbers dwindle, that standards for what constitutes "decent video and audio" will probably be eroded, but again, that's fine with me. Some of these flicks just can't be had in super quality, at least not for the time being, if ever. I'm not that picky about condition, because I'm more interested in the films themselves.
Guess I'm not a choosy mother.

I like all style sof spy form dark and drecky to silly and fun. But slapstick and pratfalls I don't do.
Balearic Caper aka Operazione Baleari Oro aka Zarabanda Bing Bing is the one for me. I've watched it in Italian - its fun and cool and silly with no facepulling! And it stars the queen of spy films - Daniella - what is there to wonder about?

Update time again:
I'm very close to shelving my redub effort for Massacre in the Sun (German "dvd"). I have completed about 30 min of the film and truly believe I have more German bits than English at this point... they even cut out a belly dancing scene and a karate stand off! Shame on them! As much as I want decent Ardisson flicks, I think I'll be better off waiting for a better version. It's not actually a stellar version and I can always revisit the project at a later date.
Besides, there's a whole lot more on the project list to spend time one!
Member camps is sending me the French dvd of To Skin a Spy, as it is meant to look better than the ITA one I received last month. Fan subs have been created for this film, I just need to edit / proof / time them and fold into the dvd.
Ditto for Chinos y minifaldas aka Death on a Rainy Day. The Spanish tv cap I received from my new contact in the Netherlands looks great. Just need to massage the fan subs a little bit.
Does anyone have a handle on an Eng version of Your Turn to Die? The ITA dvd turned out to be really nice!
The dvd for Op San Gennaro also turned out to be really spectacular. I just popped it in for a few seconds and the picture is bright, colorful, and widescreen! To top it all off, it comes with a Russian voice over (crap) and the original Italian soundtrack (nice)... and, English Subs!!! I need to correct the color on the subs and nix the Russian track and like I said I have not watched the film yet... should this be placed on the fan sub / redub listing? I have no clue where this sucker originally came from!
I need to get on the redubs for Seven Golden Men Strike Again and Seven Times Seven... Elektra 1, FX 18, Jaguar, Cotton / Red Jaguar, Hot Diamonds, Fistful of Diamonds, Coplan fx 18, ... etc.
Also, possible upgrades for Si Muore and Mex Slayride coming...
So, lot's to do and this is just the tip of the iceberg...
I've talked about Op Stermino off and on. There was a redub done by Dave using an avi from sat tv that is cropped to remove the Iris watermark. Dave deleted a bit of footage to fit the Eng dub. I have since received an mpeg2 capture of the same broadcast. I asked him how much extra trouble I can expect if I redo his redub to fit the full version... he said probably a lot. After this crap with Massacre, I need some easy stuff to do for a while... but this is still on the table.
Some CG pals (Dave from Spain and "hocico") are working on Rififi in Amsterdam and Blueprint for a Massacre respectively. There's also an avi to dvd conversion of Diamonds are Brittle I need to do... fan subs on this courtesy of McDuck.
cheers

I wanted to let everyone know that our translator, "RL", will be out of pocket for a little while. He's going through a rough patch and he needs to concentrate on his personal life for a little while.
He did indicate that he'd gotten to the rough draft stage on James Tont DUE, but I'm not going to bug him about it. Just asking for a little patience from all the forum members who have been supporters of this great project.
I'm still plugging along with other stuff when I am able. It's a busy time at work right now.
cheers

Patience is my middle name. Ignatz Patience -- that's how I got to have an IP address.
Seriously, I'm just 100% grateful that you (and your accomplices) go to all the trouble to make these uber-obscure flicks available to duffers like me.

Damn, damn, and damn!
Matt, sorry for the profanity, but I just can't seem to make any headway lately. Work has been very busy and I finally see some light so I crank up the project for Hot Diamonds in Cold Blood. There's a six minute difference in the two run times... I start to check it out and find a ten second difference in the first 24 seconds. The time differences are primarily from cuts to the Eng version. So, I'm shelving another one for the foreseeable future, especially since I'm still unsure of RL's status... maybe this one can be subbed at a later date?
I have two versions of the Eng dub and the longest one clocks in at 91 min 41 sec (the ITA dvd clocks in @ 97 min 41 sec). If anyone has a version that is longer, please tell!
On to the next one.
Good news from the other side of the pond... Dave from Spain has wrapped up a few redub projects lately.
cheers

And to add to my angst, I found out last night that McDuck from CG will be taking an extended hiatus from all project work... so the fansubbing side of things looks very bleak indeed. If I had a Weber or a Walther I'd shoot myself. I tried the shotgun last night but couldn't get my overly-large big toe through the trigger-guard. I saw that in a movie somewhere... must have been a midget playing that scene.
On the bright side, John Drake is alive and well and working on getting the Ironfinger 1 subs dressed out. I'll let it slip here, he has finished Ironfinger 2 already... but you didn't hear that from me! Let him announce it before you all go crazy...shh! He's also reworked subs for Mistress of a 1000 Faces to work with the French dvd (remastered). I need to get my thumb out of my... CORRECTION! toe out of my shotgun and get to work on that one!
So, all is not lost, there is a bright side. Maybe fansubbers suffer from PTSD faster than us fandubbers? Boy, I tell ya, when I go it will be LARGE! If you read the nationals and they're sensationalizing this weird story about some middle-aged creep dressed in a sixties-era tux who freaked out and went blind on shaken martinis whilst pot-shooting innocent bystanders with his Webley / Walther... well, you get the picture.
Seriously folks, thanks for letting me ramble. Hopefully you all get a smile induced from my ranting... instead of simultaneously tracing my IP address and dialing "911".
cheers!
